Regulated beaches at Mesta of Chios (in a short distance)
Apothika
A regulated beach with pebbles and calm crystal waters, where can be seen cute little seals. It features a canteen/café and sun loungers and provides the chance for diving and water sports. Nearby hidden beaches can be discovered by swimming or by renting canoes! By swimming, you can also discover a nearby small cave.
Access: Apotheca beach is at a 6.5 km distance from Mesta and is easily accessible by car/motorbike, or bicycle via an asphalt road.
Food: There is no tavern nearby, but the canteen/café offers salads, fruit salads, sandwiches and some snacks.
Note 1: The diving center on the beach of Apotheca is certified, and the only one in South Chios!
Note 2: The canteen/café is located on a hill where you can enjoy nice views. Access is facilitated by improvised stairs, and delivery to the beach is facilitated by an improvised cable car.
Avlonia
A regulated beach in a closed bay with pebbles and clean, blue waters, surrounded by rocky formations. It features a canteen and sun loungers with umbrellas, and provides natural wind protection! Ideal for bathing, relaxing and sunbathing!
Access: Avlonia beach is at a 6 km distance from Mesta and is easily accessible by car, or bike via an asphalt road, which in the last 100 meters becomes a dirt road.
Food: There is no tavern nearby, but the canteen offers delicious kebab (roasted pork on skewers), sandwiches and Greek salad.
Note 1: There are more deck chairs available in Avlonia beach, rather than in Apotheca.
Unregulated beaches near Mesta of Chios (in a short distance)
Merikounda
An unregulated beach with more intense volcanic features, combining black with white pebbles. It features deep blue waters, longer length (200 m), and open rock formations that do not provide wind protection. It stands out for its location, which offers magical sunsets, with the sun sinking into the sea!
Access: The beach of Merikounda is at a 4 km distance, west of Mesta, and is easily accessible by car /motorbike /bike via an asphalt road, or by walking down a dirt road.
Note: There is no tavern nearby, no canteen, so you should bring food and water.
Didyma
An unregulated beach/shoreline with white chalk and clear green waters, which looks like two beaches that join together to form a heart! Small, quiet and protected by side rocky formations, it is great for almost private bathing, as well as for calm, enjoyable fishing, for those who love the «sport»!
Access: Didyma beach is at a 6 km distance away from Mesta and easily accessible by car or bicycle via an asphalt road that becomes a dirt road at some point.
Food: At the Port of Mesta, you can find restaurants and taverns.
Potami
An unregulated beach with white chalk and clear waters that change colors, from turquoise to blue and blue shades. Small, quiet and relatively protected by side rocky formations, it is ideal for calm bath, relaxation and sunbathing.
Access: Potami beach is at 3.5 km distance from Mesta port/8 km from Mesta, and is easily accessible via an asphalt road that becomes a dirt road for a short distance.
Food: At the Port of Mesta, or the nearby Agia Irini beach, you can find restaurants and taverns.
